Our Mission
Hindu children are the inheritors of one of the greatest
cultural, religious, and spiritual traditions of the world. However,
Hindu children growing up in Western societies are often not aware
of this great inheritance. The purpose of Sadhu Vaswani Summer Camp
(SVSC) is to provide an opportunity for the Hindu youth to explore and understand
the diverse traditions and philosophies of Hinduism in an intellectual,
nurturing, and fun-filled environment. SVSC is dedicated to helping
Hindu youth discover and reconcile what it means to be a Hindu American.
Our Camp
Although the priority of SVSC is to expose our youth to the richness of Hindu religion,
we by no means neglect our childrens' desires for 'fun in the sun'! Where as Camp mornings
are devoted to yoga, puja, philosophy, Sanskrit, and slokas, our afternoons are filled
with exciting sports, creative arts and crafts, and other enjoyable activities.
In the evenings, there is a variety of programs such as dances, concerts, camp
fires, and special pujas. Through all of these educational and joyous interactions,
our children build friendships that last a lifetime. SVSC is an experience that
your children will never forget. We invite you enrole your children to experience the camaraderie and bonds formed by attending the camp.
Children between the ages of 8-16 are welcome as campers, and young adults, ages 17+, are invited to apply as counselors. Adults are also welcome to apply as volunteers.
In addition to our unique and effective curriculum , the most important feature
of SVSC is our programming and teaching staff of motivated young adults. As many
of us know, parents face great challenges in teaching Hindu traditions and philosophy
to their children. However, when the teachers are young adults, the children are
much more open and enthusiastic to learn, accept, and respect the same teachings.
Please be assured that while our young adult counselors are in charge of programming,
teaching, and caring for the children, there is always ample adult supervision throughout
the day.
